    Guys, especially Scott, a few reminders about the circumstances you seem to forget:
    1. Carcillo is a fighter but not a heavyweight like Brashear or even Cote;
    2. Gaborik and the Rangers were crowding Emery, and the Flyers were in the right trying to clear the area. Carcillo was right to grab the nearest unrestrained Ranger, who happened to be Gaborik;
    3. Gaborik face-washed Carcillo, helping to lead to the gloves off by BOTH players;
    4. Unlike too many players these days, Carcillo backed after dropping Gaborik.

    Last week in a telephone sequence with Phil Esposito, a comment was made that Kate Smith sang GOD BLESS AMERICA two times in person at the Spectrum. This is incorrect, she sang in person four times: 10/11/73 Toronto, 05/19/74 Boston, 05/13/75 NY Islanders, and 05/16/76 Montreal. I attended the Montreal game (in which the Flyers lost) and couldn’t believe the volume and intensity that she brought when singing this song (the rafters literally shook). I agree with Phil, this should be the national anthem of the United States of America, much better than “bombs bursting in air”!

    Hi Scott,

    Could you please ask Brian Lewis about Refs trying to even out calls. If one team gets several calls against them, you often hear commentators say that the Refs will soon call one against the other team and sure enough they do.
    That just doesn’t seem right to me; but it does seem to be the case. They often call a somewhat lame penalty later on, just to show some balance.
    What does Brian think? Even if it is the tradition, isn’t it time to change that poor approach? why should one team suffer, just because the other team decides to be careless and take penalties.

    Please comment.

    Thank you

    John in Toronto
